Greetings Templo people and others:
It is all about Jesus! When I was new in God, by Gods grace Pastor Richard Tanon was used to encourage me, exhort me and inspire me in Gods truths. See.. I do not like men who compromise in the pulpit and he did not. Really got my spirit fired up in my Jesus walk. I pray that God may grant the increase in the many lives that God used Pastor to reach. I remember when i first went to Templo, I was like mom look they are giving one and other a holy kiss (on the cheeck) in regards to the fellow believers. As that is what Gods word says to do. From that little honouring of Gods word to the many other ways I scene the Lord move. Is what blessed me sooo much and the many who sincerely loved the Lord. who were warm and welcoming. The many testimonies of are heavenly Father. I was an usher also and got to see the smiles of hope! How they encouraged me in my calling of ministering to the youth and evangelizing. Me and my family were there less then a year ( a very fruitul one) I can say that I have yet to be part of such a fired up beautiful fellowship. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty! I have been going through many trials and tribulations, yet I know the hottest fire refines the purest gold! So in faith I march on. What stirred me to write was I had a dream of Templo the other night, after which I woke up thanking God to be part of such a vision. I had no idea this was the 90th anniversary. In the last days there will be famine in the land not of bread and water but of Gods word. California is under heavy attack from those who do not hunger for Christ. But Gods word is not chained! And i praise God... that many of you were so faithful to the King of kings. Do keep me and my family in your prayers and I shall keep you in mine. God bless in Jesus name!

Joe Rodriguez
I was member of the church for a few years during Bro. Aquino's pastorship,
Unforgetable treasured years. I want to thank those reponsible for sending me the invitation for the 90th aniversary celebration. I now reside in oregon and was only able to attend the last service.
It was great to see some of the brothers and sisters i had not seen for a very long time. I'm very glad to see how much progress the church has made through the years .... a testament to the efforts of all those concerned for the welfare of the community.
Ii noticed that the name templo de la cruz was not visible ... well maybe it was been repaired or something ... but i missed it.
Once again i thank you for the invitation.
If anyone who knows me wishes to have my email address, please feel free
to pass it on. God bless all.

Betty Vargas- Granddaughter of Domingo Cruz
Why I love Templo?
My Journey at Templo De La Cruz On the 11Th day of December 1933 I was dedicated
to the Lord at the ALTAR of La Mission Castellana De Las Asambleas De
Dios at Ramos Ave. (TDLC) by my Grandfather Domingo Cruz, Seventy Five years ago.
Betty Lou (Cruz) Rodrigues, please drop the "Lou," it was reserved for
me only when I misbehaved, as brother Candido our Sunday School
teacher would say: "Betty Lou, you awful," it was not easy being a PGK
(preachers grand kid.) My early recollection of attending church is
being told by my grandmother, "El Bombo Esta Tocando" (the drum is
being played) which meant, Sunday School is about to begin.
I thank God for the faithful Sunday School and Summer Bible School
teachers that taught me about the love of God at an early age. Sunday
School played a very important part in my early years of development.
At the age of three or four I would stand on the church bench and
recite: "Dios Es Amor" or sing a child's chorus.
In my early teens I learned to play the piano (key of C and
G) and was called on to play only when there was no one else
available.
Fasten your seat belts here is were my journey at TEMPLO gets
interesting.
I gave my heart to the Lord at an early age and was baptized by Pastor
John Akino (my uncle ) who was then pastor. In 1946 (I was 13 years old) as I was at the piano (no one else available,) a new family from San Antonio, Texas came to our church,
and joined our fellowship. Our music department(a bass drum, and a
guitar) welcomed them. Father played the clarinet, Ramon played the
trumpet and Juan played the violin. When I laid eyes on the cute violinist I immediately thought, "Si! Si! He Is The "Juan" For Me."
Yes!!! in 1951 I married the violinist, United Stated Marine John
Vargas, that I had met at TEMPLO 5 years prior, we were married for 35
years. We brought our three sons to the ALTAR of TEMPLO to be
dedicated to the Lord by Pastor John Akino. My sons were taught God's
word by faithful Sunday School teachers and Royal Ranger leaders, I
thank them.
I have also seen my Grand children and Great Grandchildren brought to
the ALTAR of TEMPLO to be dedicated to the Lord by Pastor Richard Tanon.
During my journey I attended Bethel Temple during the 1970s.
It was in 1985, that God dealt with me somewhat like Ruth of the
Bible, my new name was "Mara"(bitter) Ruth 1: 20- 21 "I went out full
and the Lord has brought me back empty."
When we left Templo we were a family of five... however when I
returned to TEMPLO it was just ME....... broken in a million pieces.
I felt like "Humpty-Dumpty." God had seen fit to take John home and my sons had taken on different life styles. At this junction of my journey is when I needed to turn to the God
that had been instilled in me since childhood.
With the friendship of Pastor Sam Sanchez, (he and John were long
time friends) the love of my TEMPLO family, my sister and mentor Geri
Christensen, my beloved Pastor Richard Tanon, who God used mightily
with his uncompromising words, at times gentle, and when needed he did
not "spare the rod," God restored my life and put my broken heart back
together again. What "all the kings horses and all the kings men"
could not do for "Humpty- Dumpty" God was able to do for me.
I am here to tell of God's love and restoring power.
Back to the original question.... WHY DO I LOVE TEMPLO DE LA CRUZ?
My roots at Templo are very deep, It is at this ALTAR where I was
dedicated to the Lord, where I first learned to love God, where I have
been nurtured and comforted , where I met my husband and said "Good Bye" to my loved ones, and where you will one day say "Good Bye" to me. At this same ALTAR my ancestors and those of you that I love and call "family" worship God.
God has now placed the "Man For This New Season," Pastor John Masis to lead and insure that future generations will continue to worship at this very ALTAR and, experience God's Saving Power, Mercy, and Awesome Love.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE TEMPLO DE LA CRUZ !

Grand Finale- Pastor John Masis
Sunday, Aug 31th we had our Grand Finale Service.
Our TDLC worship team led worship and ministered to start the service. They did great.
Our choir sang two songs, they sang beautifully as always.
Island Praise came and ministered. They ministered beautifully as well.
We received the word from our guest speaker Pastor Angel Menchaca. He preached a powerful word. The message was about Possessing the Land that God has promised us. It was a great word to end the celebration with and it spoke powerfully to the current membership of Templo.
The time at the altar was powerful just like in every service.
The 90th Anniversary was a great celebration. It was more than I could have ever imagined. God did so many great things in so many lives. Past and present members of Templo as well as friends and family of Templo that came throughout the nine day celebration all received something from the Lord. God showed Himself faithful again. He never lets us down.
I am so proud of Templo De La Cruz. I am proud to pastor such an awesome church with such great people. I see God's favor on our church. This 90th anniversary was a success and it was due to first of all the Lord, then the great people of Templo that worked endlessly and sacrificially during the celebration and because of the presence of family and friends of Templo that came and joined with us in our celebration. We are so thankful to Evangelist Roberto Lugo and Pastor Angel Menchaca for coming and ministering the Word of God so powerfully during the services. They were truly a blessing to the body of Christ present at each service. Revival not only hit Templo during the celebration, but it left Templo and went to other houses because of these two great men of God. May the Lord Bless Them.
PRAISE THE LORD! THE VISION LIVES!! THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!

BBQ & Concert- Pastor John Masis
Saturday, Aug 30th we had our free BBQ and concert. It was our way to say thank you to the church and the community. We had some great men from the church get up early and start BBQing from 8am in the morning. We had many others come and set up and bring food and prepare for the day.
We had a great crowd show up. We had over three hundred people come for the BBQ. There was a great time of fellowship as well.
At 3pm we went inside the sanctuary and heard the comedy of Christian Comedian Dennis Gaxiola. He was hilarious. He made us laugh. It was refreshing.
We then heard the ministry of L-Rey. They rocked the house. They turned a popular song in the world, Suavecito and turned it into a Christian song, JesusCristo. They have a Latin Soul sound that is unique. We were really blessed by their music and the testimony of Martin Cantu.
It was a great time. A nice change of pace. We are now ready for the Grand Finale.

Honoring John Masis- Pastor John Masis
Friday, Aug 28th we had our fifth evening Revival Service.
The San Jose Christian Worship Center worship team led by Pastor Benji Cortez ministered to start the service.
My bio (John Masis) was read and a slide show of me was shown. The slide show had a lot of pictures of childhood, youth and family. My wife, Cindy provided the pictures.
The church gave a long and loud applause as the recognition was being given. I am so humbled by the love that Templo De La Cruz has shown and continues to show me and my family. We feel the love of the congregation and it makes us love the church even more. It is my joy to pastor this church.
I was very honored to have my children, my parents, my sister all present. A couple of men that have been a blessing to my life, Dr. Kenneth Searle (Bible College Professor) and Bishop Steve Perea (pastor, CWC Manteca) were also present. My best friend Pastor Eddie Contreras (we spent 10 years in ministry together) and his wife were there and a young couple that I spent years with, Sal and Lisa Ibarra (I also had the privilege of marrying them) were also there. The presence of all these family and friends made the night special. To have my wife of 20 years next to me and receive the pastoral recognition was also very special.
There was testimony from Phil Muela Jr, who is a son of the house, he said some very encouraging words. He just started Bible College and I am so proud of him. He has a great calling on his life.
There was also testimony from Chantelle Alvarez, who spoke of what God has done in her family at Templo.
Our Youth Drama Team did a human video and it was powerful. I was so proud of them.
We also had a solo from Jamila Green one of our current worship leaders and a daughter of the house. She sang beautifully.
We received the word for the evening from our guest speaker Pastor Angel Menchaca. He brought a powerful word. The message was about us as individuals and corporately as a church doing things with a spirit of excellence like the prophet Daniel. We should do this because we serve an excellent God with an excellent Name.
The altar call was made for all leaders and servers in the house. I was so happy to see them at all at the altar. Everyone had worked so hard this week, so to see them receive this special time of ministry was a great blessing to me. Our church worked together in unity and as a family. Everyone worked sacrificially to see the 90th be a success.
Tomorrow (Saturday) we will have a free BBQ, Christian comedian Dennis Gaxiola and a concert with L-Rey led by former lead singer of Malo, Martin Cantu.
Pastor Angel Menchaca will be with us again on Sunday morning. I expect an awesome Grand Finale Service.

Honoring Pastor Tanon- John Masis
Thursday, Aug 27th we had our fourth evening Revival Service. It continued to be awesome. Sister Ruth Tanon and her two sons, Kenny and Ron were present. We were honored to have Pastor Ruth with us since Sunday morning and every night.
The Manteca Christian Worship Center worship team led by Pastor Art Sanchez ministered to start the service, they didn't pull any punches. Their drummer, guitarist and bassist were all awesome. They brought a horn section of three people and their singers led by Michelle Almoboguyen (Phil and Patty Muela's daughter) sang beautifully. Our Seniors Pastor Tillie Torres led our Senior Saints in one of the classics.
We read the bio of Pastor Richard Tanon along with a slide show of him. The slide show had a lot of pictures of Pastor Tanon with his family and a few of him preaching. It sure pulled at the heart strings. The feeling of losing a pastor, mentor and friend surfaced. He was such an awesome man of God. One of a kind. Worthy of any recognition or honor that is bestowed upon him. He was truly a General.
We presented Ruth Tanon with an award in recognition of his pastoral leadership.
Ron Tanon sanga a special song (Pastor Tanon used to say, the Lord didn't give the gift of singing, but He gave me Ron).
We also had a solo from Diana Chaparro. A spiritual daughter of Pastor Tanon. It was a blessing.
We received the word for the evening from our guest speaker Evangelist Roberto Lugo. He once again brought a powerful word. The message was between the Father of the Faith (Abraham) and the Son of Promise (Isaac). God can still do a miracle even through two dead people. We need to die with Christ, when we do there is nothing the devil can do to us.
The time at the altar was powerful. This was the last night that Evangelist Roberto Lugo was with us. He brought a powerful word every night, he ministered to so many that were present. I have heard so many praise reports. Many of them were from people who were visiting and just happen to come with someone else and of course many current and former members of Templo were also blessed.
Pastor Angel Menchaca will be with us on Friday evening and Sunday morning. Another tremendous preacher and man of God. The momentum will continue to build.

Helen Silva
Templo De La Cruz was my new beginning, I got baptized by Pastor Tanon on Easter Sunday April 2004 at the age of 34 yrs old. I was always so amazed that he knew where everyone sat in church, one sunday morning, choir had already started and he seen that I wasn't up there he asked me why? I was surprised, I didn't know what to exactly say, all I knew is that I needed to get up there and sing with the choir, that simple. Pastor Tanon really impacted my life that morning with something as little as that, asking me why? at that moment I really felt like I was part of a church family and that is a great feeling. Pastor Tanon had a gift of encouragement, my baptism day I asked him if I could go up and sing with the choir and he said Yes. Pastor Tanon cared about his flock and that is what I truely admire. Pastor Tanon was an angel that God sent for me, I was sad and broken hearted and he welcomed me and my son George with open arms like he had been waiting, he said that Templo was our home. I'm so grateful and blessed that I met him. God has blessed me with my husband Jenaro Silva, we were married April 5th 2008, he is my best friend and he loves JESUS just like ME. God has also brought my cousin Lena back into my life, she has recently been baptized by Pastor John, God does miracles but always on his timing not ours.Thank You for letting me share - Sister Helen

Sharon Goodnow
Because the church is honoring Pastor Tanon this evening I wanted to share a private memory of mine with those who knew and loved him.
I taught kindergarten at Templo Christian Academy years and years ago. Sister Ruthie was our Administrator and my cousin Loni a teacher of the older children.
It was our habit for us to meet for devotions before we began our day downstairs under Pastors office. Pastor would be up in his office getting ready for his day and inevidably he would begin to pray and intercede for the church or some need. As the days passed he continued to go to prayer and I began to develop a love for this faithful man of God. Sometimes his prayer times were joyful and filled with shouting and sometimes he wept so hard I thought my heart would break. He loved the Lord and he loved the church.
He was very patient when I had a question for him or wanted to share something with him. He always had a smile for me. It was a honor to see the relationship both working and private that he shared with Sister Ruthie, his wife. I loved the way he looked at her and she at him. There was mutual respect, love and smiles and tons of support..
There was also another side to "his look" when he went to war (in prayer) against the enemy. He had no fear. I'm sure you saw it too when he took the pupit on Sunday mornings. The Lord showed Himself strong on his behalf many, many times and in battles of faith he won much more than he lost.
He was one of my heros. It's a privilege to have known him both he and Sister Ruthie.
With love, Sharon Goodnow, daughter of Neal & Geri Christensen

Honoring Sam Sanchez - Pastor John Masis
Wednesday, Aug 27th we had our third evening Revival Service. It was a great time. Many family members of Pastor Sam Sanchez showed up for the service. Especially by the presence of his wife Delia Sanchez and his son Craig Sanchez. Pastor Sam's brothers Reynold and Daniel were also present. We were really honored by their presence.
The Living Hope Christian Center worship team led by Pastor Benjamin Robinson (a dear friend of mine from Bible College) ministered to start the service and our Seniors Pastor Tillie Torres with two of her daughters sang a special song written by one of Pastor Sam's sisters. It was a great time of worship.
We read the bio of Sam Sanchez along with a slide show of him. Rick DeJesus one of our current members who got saved under Pastor Sam's ministry spoke of him and his ministry.
We presented Delia Sanchez with an award in recognition of his pastoral leadership.
Reynold (Sam's brother) and Craig (Sam's son) did a special song and we received the word for the evening from our guest speaker Evangelist Roberto Lugo. He brought a powerful word. The message was part three from 2 Chron. 7:14.
He spoke about "if my people turn." We need to turn back to God, back to the faith of our fathers. Not to go back in time, but to bring with us some of the great things that our predecessors had like believing in the power of prayer and having faith to believe God to do miracles, signs and wonders. If God did it with them, then He can do it with us. It was another great word and the time at the altar was powerful. Every service has been powerful. I can't remember the last time I was in a week long revival. I haven't even heard of any being held anywhere, there may be some, I just haven't heard of them. But it brings to rememberance the value of being in church night after night and soaking in the anointing and the presence of God. It really is renewing and refreshing.
Tonight (Thursday) we honor our legendary Pastor Richard Tanon. He was the fourth pastor of the church. He pastored the church for 21 years. He was named Pastor Emeritus of Templo De La Cruz shortly after he went to be with the Lord.
We have been really blessed to have Ruth Tanon with us since Sunday morning, Aug 24th and all week long in all of our services. She was raised as a child in Templo, went to LABI, married Pastor Tanon, and then had the honor of coming back to pastor the church of her childhood with her husband. Her heart will always be at Templo, she has told us. We love her dearly and her presence means so much.
Pastor Tanon was a man of integrity, man that loved people, known as a preacher's preacher, He loved Templo and the people of Templo and most of all he loved God with all his mind, heart, soul and strength.
All are welcomed to join us for any and all the services. Please feel free to share something in this blog if you have been at any of the services or are a former member of Templo. This blog was meant for anyone ever associated with Templo, so that all can be blessed.
I have included some pictures of the Wednesday Evening Service for our 90th Anniversary Celebration.
